Only 122 spyders were produced by the Ferrari factory of which only 7 were right hand drive. A few Berlinettas got converted to spyders during the boom years when these cars were worth £millions. It was voted top sports car of the 1970's by Sports Car International and frequently voted best Ferrari of all time by other leading journalists, easily outstripping its rivals the Lamborghini Muira and Masserati Ghibli. It featured in many classic films and tv series like The Gumball Rally and Miami Vice and of course Top Gear raced one along the south coast of France against a boat! On the track the car enjoyed success at Le Mans & Daytona itself.
There have been several companies producing replicas over the years and this example by RS (Richard Stewart) is about as good as they get. The project was 4 years in the making and is accurate to within 2 mm of the original. A huge history portfolio supports this project from the beginning and documents everything right up to a recent £8,000 refurbishment which included a new mohair roof and sat nav with tracker.
This factory built car is finished in Rosso red with correct black & tan leather upholstery. Instrumentation is correct with sliders for heating controls. Alcantara dashboard top. The engine fitted is Jaguar's V12 5.3 litre unit with manual 5 speed gearbox. In built fire extinguisher system. Everything has been badged as Ferrari including the dust caps! 15" Ferrari style alloys with Pirelli P600 tyres. Power steering. Electric windows, woodrim steering wheel. Quad exhaust tail pipes. Many original Ferrari parts fitted.
This car is superb and authentic in every respect. It will get you noticed and invited to many `A list` parties. These replicas change hands for anything up to £50,000. Incredible value when you consider the cost of a real one, not to mention maintenance and insurance costs.. The last one we had went to an oil baron inTexas! This car is a credit to its previous owners and is the best one we've owned. |

The origins of Marcos Cars go back to 1960 when the founders Jem Marsh and Frank Costin (hence the conjoined name Mar- Cos) created the gull winged coupe that was made from plywood. In the mid 60's with the aid of designer Dennis Adams a much sleeker GT was produced in fibreglass and its from here that today's range of cars evolved.
This model, the Mantaray is superbly honed, yet retains the sleek lines that Marcos became famous for. Completely factory built, this being one of the last off the line and is fitted with Rover 2.0 turbo injection producing 135 bhp. Top speed is listed as 135 mph and 0-60 5.9 secs. 5 speed gearbox and independent suspension all round. AP racing brakes make sure you can pull up. 15" 5 spoke alloys complement the look. Finished in titanium silver metallic with contrasting full luxury dark blue leather. Mohair hood in navy blue. Elm vaneer dash, white instruments, elec. windows, elec. adjustable pedal box (seat is fixed in the optimum position), elec. mirrors, heated front windscreen, remote central locking and alarm by Clifford. JVC cd/stereo, heater, sun visors and wind deflectors complete the picture. One owner (car was pre-registered by supplying dealer). 42,000 miles with service history. A really beautiful looking car that looks a whole lot more expensive than its price tag suggests. |
