The
Ram Cobra Restoration |
|
| 15
/ 01 / 2005 |
We
just thought you might like to see one of our restoration
projects as it progresses. The car, a sought after Ram with
Mustang 302 c.i. engine has languished in the hot Spanish
sunshine of late and has suffered from severe fading of
the interior. Externally the paintwork was not up to our
standards either but otherwise a very sound and desirable
vehicle.
Enter
Hallmark`s team of City and Guilds certified engineers headed
up by Michael Black and Syd Williams. Mike says he "
enjoys these projects as it is very satisfying to restore
a car back to its original beauty ". He should know
a thing or two about that having spent 10 years in the business.
Anyway, the vehicle will be stripped with notes being made
of modifications to be carried out upon re-assembly. Afterwards
the car will be sent to the paint shop where more attention
will be lavished upon this vehicle. Then the trim shop before
returning to Hallmark`s Chingford Works for the painstaking
refit which will include a new dashboard and instruments
amongst other things.

The
Battle Plan |
| The
start of any restortion project is the most important, as forward
planning now, will result in a better finished product. Before
any work is carried out to the car we make a detail plan of
what is required, and what new parts are needed so that we can
place orders at an early stage so as not to be held up later
on. There is nothing more annoying than for the project to grind
to a halt because some minor part can`t be obtained. |
|
|
From
this plan we can arrange for the car to go into our workshop
and be stripped. Then on to our paintshop for the bodywork to
be repaired and prepared for paint. The car will then go onto
the trim shop for the interior work to be carried out and then
back to us. |
| The
photos below show just how tired and faded the interior had
become, all of this is to be replaced with brand new Connolly
hide, Wilton carpets and new dashboard complete with post SVA
instruments. Add a few extras such as steering wheel, harness
seat belts and this all adds up to a completely new interior! |
| |
|
| As
we expected from our first article, somebody has called in
and placed a deposit on the car, sorry if you have missed
out. This means that the new owner will have complete control
over colour scheme and how the interior will look. Working
together we will achieve a top standard of quality and a colour
coordination that suits the end user.
The customer has specified the colour combinations to be used
and we will update this article as it progresses. Coachwork
is to be finished in embassy black ( non metallic ) with twin
Le-Mans racing stripes in white designed to his spec. The
leather will be cream, piped in black. Contrasting Wilton
carpets bound in cream leather will set the car off. New Willans
harness seat belts and Halibrand wheels also in black will
make this a stunning looking car. These are the main points
for the Cobra and the smaller details will be added along
the way. |

The
Cobra has now been moved down to the bodyshop where the body
repairs will be carried out. Two pack primer is used to to
give the final paint a good base. The primer is allowed to
settle for a week or so, and then on to it final prep ready
for the paint....
